I just ordered a belated birthday present for myself that will arrive in my backyard tomorrow. Three cubic yards of top soil. Funny how the things that get you all excited change as we get older. I did have lobster casserole on my birthday which was pretty tasty but my son is now officially sick of eating lobster. I think I am going to have to disown him.

RE: Belated Happy Birthday!
Late happy natal day. I saw this yesterday but didn't have any inspired spin to impose on my salutation.
"Funny how the things that get you all excited change as we get older." I am oft reminded of that very observation. When I went back to school in my mid 30s to change vocation from oilfield geologist to (shudder) high school science teacher, one of my ed teachers asked us each to describe the perfect day. My description involved some combination of high energy sporting activity (skiing, rock climbing, white water rafting, mountaineering...whatever), exotic locale and cadre of dear friends. He (being older) said that his perfect day was sitting on the back porch, reading the paper, drinking a fresh cup of coffee and contemplating a day with no particular tasks ahead. How I mocked him in my mind when he told us. Guess where I am in my head these days?

Yeah, this weekend I need to prep (till in some compost and fertilizer) my garden soil for planting, and yes, it will be fun to grovel around with that. Anyway, have a masterpiece of a weekend. Ed Pardon things: Live upgraded the forum software, and seem to have temporarily lost some of the styling. Will get it back this weekend, plus get Celandine those smilies she wants, plus additional MyCode/widget thingies for embedding multimedia, video, etc. |

RE: Belated Happy Birthday!
We were hoping to get the peas planted today between the rain squalls but looks to be solid downpour as the nor'easter passes off the coast. An excuse to come up in midweek since I have to go to a meeting in Sacramento next weekend.
Cool, high tide at 11.20AM this morning. Going down to take a photo of Motif #1 which might have some decent waves on that side after blowing 50 knots constant from the east for the last day. Cope, I would have said the perfect day ten years ago started with taking the first chair up the mountain to ski untouched powder. Now I go for untouched groomed snow (I know that is a oxymoron). As for that cup of coffee sitting on the back deck contemplating no tasks is impossible now that staring at me in the backyard is 3 cubic yards of tarped loam, three earthen mounds of dirt and cut granite which are leftovers from 100 year past renovations. My eye cannot help moving the dirt and building walls while sawing a few limbs off. Fun Fact: (I did this last weekend). If you build a large pile of brush then tee-pee all the dead trees around it and light with gasoline you get a decent fire. But if you want to really get it going then fire up the 78 cc leaf blower and feed some air into the base at 160 mph. I did not burn the forest down but if I had some iron ore and some carbon I could have made steel. Misplaced my leg hairs and my eyebrows. |

The day to get hammered on green beer and stuff oneself in as many Irish bars in Boston. Now my goal was to get my peas planted by Saint Paddy's and we did. Yesterday was such a beautiful day after so much rain I used the excuse of having to check for water damage to go up to Rockport. In the shop I could put my ear to the cement floor and hear/feel the granite getting pounded by the surf a hundred yards away. Prepped the garden and got the peas in. Lunch in town was crab cakes. They had no fresh lobster because of the storm. |
