Home of the Lyme Tick Test 1-877-TICK TEST New Jersey Laboratories has developed a new procedure that allows for the early detection of the Borrelia Burgdorferi bacteria that causes Lyme disease. Unlike other methods this procedure identifies the bacteria in ticks in only a few days which can make the difference in treating this life threatening disease. Other clinical tests for diagnosing Lyme disease may take several weeks to months during which time the effects of the disease may become more difficult to treat. If you want to determine if a tick is a carrier of the bacteria that causes Lyme disease, contact: New Jersey Laboratories at 1(732) 249-0148 Put the tick in a small ziplock sandwich bag with a cotton ball moistened with water. Place a label with your name and address on the ziplock bag and mail to: NEW JERSEY LABORATORIES, 1110 SOMERSET ST., NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ 08901 Test cost is $60, make checks payable to: New Jersey Laboratories Results are mailed approximately ten days after receipt. Multiple ticks from the same person can be tested as a single test. Simply place multiple ticks in a single zip-locked bag and indicate that they were on one person. If the tick was exposed to alcohol or other antibiotic agents, the tick must be tested using a DNA type procedure. The DNA test cost is $175.http://njlabs.com/TickTest/index.cfm http://njlabs.com/TickTest/ticks.cfm http://njlabs.com/TickTest/lymedisease.cfm also ![]() http://www.aldf.com/faq.shtml http://www.aldf.com/EMPoster.shtml ![]() . . Guess who just had a Series of Mini Strokes ![]() ![]() KNOW The SIGNS / ACT In TIME Since its launch in 2001, the Know Stroke campaign has focused on: * Increasing the public's awareness of signs and symptoms of stroke; * Encouraging the public to call 911 in case of stroke; and * Influencing the health care community to implement and improve protocols to treat stroke. Part of the Public Awareness Campaign was to mail out a Pamphlet and a Refrigerator Magnet describing the Symptoms, and stressing the importance of calling 911 IMMEDIATELY. I lucked out but feel beholden to pass along the information thatcan save you, or a loved one from going through years of rehab. * Sudden NUMBNESS or weakness of face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body * Sudden CONFUSION, trouble speaking or understanding speech * Sudden TROUBLE SEEING in one or both eyes * Sudden TROUBLE WALKING, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination * Sudden SEVERE HEADACHE with no known cause . I was beginning to get worried about you--so sorry to hear that you were ill. Were you hospitalized for a while? Are you home now? Are you OK home?

I wasn't ill in the usual sense.. a stroke.. as the name implies.. kinda' comes out-of-the blue one minute I had a headache, the next I was falling down dizzy (including a total loss of balance) I didn't want to call 911, but wanted to call the local taxi service but I couldn't figure out the proper sequence of steps involved in looking up the number to make the call.. it was just a jumble At that point I acknowledged that I was indeed a candidate for 911. The dizziness passed, but struck again while in the ER, leaving me very grateful to be where I was by that time... ![]() That cleared, but while they were preparing me for an electroencephalograph I had a third episode ...then a forth... ![]() So they administered A CLOT BUSTER and the dizziness subsided. They admitted me to the hospital so they could continue to do tests to determine the exact cause.. , echocardiogram, and an MRI .. then prescribed a series of drugs to thin the blood, bring down my blood pressure, and lower my cholesterol levels and sent me home, where I'm expected to do a follow-up by my primary care giver. Coronal Mass Ejection Headed For Earth ![]() ![]() On August 1st, almost the entire Earth-facing side of the sun erupted in a tumult of activity. There was a C3-class solar flare, a solar tsunami, multiple filaments of magnetism lifting off the stellar surface, large-scale shaking of the solar corona, radio bursts, a coronal mass ejection and more. This extreme ultraviolet snapshot from the Solar Dynamics Observatory shows the sun's northern hemisphere in mid-eruption. Different colors in the image represent different gas temperatures ranging from ~1 to 2 million degrees K. Credit: NASA/SDO . "...or am I a butterfly dreaming she's a woman?" . |

How the First 9 Months Shape the Rest of Your Life . . . . . . . . . . . ![]() What makes us the way we are? Why are some people predisposed to be anxious, overweight or asthmatic? How is it that some of us are prone to heart attacks, diabetes or high blood pressure? There's a list of conventional answers to these questions. We are the way we are because it's in our genes. We turn out the way we do because of our childhood experiences. Or our health and well-being stem from the lifestyle choices we make as adults. But there's another powerful source of influence you may not have considered: your life as a fetus. The nutrition you received in the womb; the pollutants, drugs and infections you were exposed to during gestation; your mother's health and state of mind while she was pregnant with you — all these factors shaped you as a baby and continue to affect you to this day.
