hey RB, here's one for you...
i hope you saw my last posts... anywho... my internal burner, a Pioneer 109, that i put in there, iirc, sometime ago, will not read/write CD-R, even already recorded on CD-R (mp3 disc that i made with iTunes long ago and plays in my car).

i've had this problem for some time, which has meant that can't burn playlist from iTunes either.

do these things have jumpers that perhaps i moved? for a while i had a pile of old burners i was swapping in and out in order to try to occasssionally get a burn done, but over some time now i had just given up.

any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Oops, haven't checked in for a bit. It was not accessible a couple of times recently.

The 109 would work fine natively in 10.4.11, they did fine up to at least the 112. I think that's what you're running if it's on the server. Throw me a bone. Wink

Even if the Finder and the iApps didn't do well Toast still can handle anything. If Toast has problems, it's toast. Confused

If it's the only drive on the bus set it to Master or CS, Cable Select. CS is always a good way to start.

The drive may be toast. They will read some kinds of discs and not others when the lasers start failing, certain color spectrums can't be read anymore. Optical drives are one of the often replaced parts in my travels. I've always found that if there is all of a sudden a problem reading discs with a drive that has been installed a while, the drive is bad, or the jumpers are wrong if it's a new installation.

time for new drive. if you have it handy throw me link to ewhat i should buy (cheap).
btw, with no already made CD-Rs mounting at all, i think Toast is off the block, right?

Either one of these.

I'd try the Samsung. I used to like Pioneer, used them exclusively, but they changed mechanisms and chipsets with the 118 line. I have one in a G4 tower that works fine, but the same drive caused a G5 tower to act stupid, not ejecting discs, and actually locking up the machine sometimes.
